Major Crackdown on Mexican Mafia in San Diego

Authorities in the United States reported that they have made a significant blow against the Mexican Mafia and the Sinaloa cartel, arresting 39 people in San Diego County. The San Diego County District Attorney's Office, along with the Police Department, presented the results of Operation "The Taxes" during a conference.

According to the information provided, the undercover operation targeted 46 individuals, primarily gang members, over a six-month period. "Last Thursday, 39 defendants were arrested following a coordinated sweep across the county," authorities explained, adding that charges were filed in 20 separate criminal cases, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, extortion, and firearm trafficking.

The results of this operation highlighted the presence and dominance of the Mexican Mafia, known as "La EME," in California. The investigation focused on dismantling a gang network in San Diego linked to drug trafficking, where connections to the Sinaloa cartel were revealed. This has helped to halt the flow of drugs and firearms from organized crime in Mexico.

"This operation once again demonstrates that we will not allow criminal organizations to terrorize our communities with threats or violence," mentioned Summer Stephan, the District Attorney of San Diego County. Among the numbers from the operation, the seizure of 21 handguns, 23 rifles, 75 pounds of methamphetamine, and more than 59 pounds of fentanyl stood out.
